Title IX Coordinator, Information and Resources

UW–Madison prohibits discrimination in employment and in all University programs and activities on a wide variety of bases, including prohibitions against sex discrimination and sexual harassment. These prohibitions are included in University policies and procedures, s. 36.12, Wisconsin Statutes, Titles VI & VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, as amended, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, as amended. A summary of the laws and policies implemented by the University can be found online. Title IX prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any educational program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance. Title IX requirements cover sex discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual misconduct and sexual violence. In accordance with these requirements, UW-Madison is responsible for taking immediate and effective steps to respond to sexual misconduct and violence. Sexual violence may include physical sexual acts performed against a person’s will or where a person is incapable of giving consent. A number of acts fall into the category of sexual violence, including rape, sexual assault, sexual battery, and sexual coercion. UW–Madison and community resources are available to address questions concerning sex discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, and sexual violence. University Health Services provides information and resources on sexual assault, dating/domestic violence and stalking. University Health Services also provides information for faculty, staff, and teaching assistants regarding sexual assault, dating violence and stalking. The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights enforces Title IX, which forbids discrimination in access to federally assisted educational programs.
