This the skeleton of Steve Tufte's (1996) Astronomy Ph.D. thesis for LaTeX2e.

Master.tex is the main file, in custom thesis.cls/thesis_aasms.sty format; it
                  includes other chapters  FIGURES not included

Commands.tex   special abbreviations/macros for thesis

thesis.cls is the latex2e based on book style.  Includes thesis_aasms.sty

thesis_aasms.sty is the latex style for AAS manuscripts.  Has special
                 environments for astronomy journals, and abbreviations
                 peculiar to astronomy

                REQUIRES latex2e
                REQUIRES epsf.sty style file for Encapsulated PS figures
                REQUIRES latex2e "graphics" package

As it stands, it will latex completely buts gives error messages
because figures are not available.  Complete text of thesis is
available however.

Benefit: well organized; all of the miscellaneous elements such as
title page, etc. are there.  Astronomy symbols are there too.
