Nuclear Experimental Physics
The University of Wisconsin has a long history of excellence in nuclear physics
dating back to the 1940's when a group led by Ray Herb started
developing the technology for pressurized electrostatic accelerators.
Wisconsin winners of the Bonner Prize in nuclear physics include Heinz
Barshall (1965), Herb (1968) and Willy Haeberli (1979). The Barshall
group did groundbreaking work in the area of neutron scattering, while
Haeberli pioneered the development of spin physics. The experimental
nuclear physics program currently has active programs in the areas
of neutrino physics, nuclear astrophysics and weak interactions. For more
information, peruse the web pages for the Heeger Group, the Knutson Group, and the Maruyama Group. |
