UW-Physics Email

Email services for faculty, staff, and students

Email service for the Department is provided by WiscMail, which uses the Office 365 email system.  All UW students and personnel get an email account associated with their NetID.  This account can have multiple email addresses associated with it.  The Physics Department can create you an email address in the following domains:

  • physics.wisc.edu
  • hep.wisc.edu
  • pheno.wisc.edu
  • pheno.physics.wisc.edu
  • nucth.physics.wisc.edu
  • wisp.physics.wisc.edu
  • cow.physics.wisc.edu

The email address can be associated with your NetID either as a primary address or an alternate address.  Alternatively, it can be associated with a separate mailbox known as a service account.

Getting a Physics email address

Contact help@physics.wisc.edu to request an email address in one of the domains listed above.

Passwords

Email administrators will never send you an email asking you to reveal your password via email or to enter it into a website other than login.wisc.edu.  Requests such as this are attempts by scammers to gain access to your account.  Please be wary of all such emails.

To change your NetID password, see the instructions here.

Email client settings

Instructions for configuring email software to access your WiscMail account are here.

Web email

To access email from any web browser, use the following addresses:

SPAM filtering

In WiscMail, email believed to be spam is placed in a folder named Junk Email.  More information can be found here.

In addition to spam filtering, WiscMail (aka Office 365) has a feature known as “Clutter”.  If this feature is enabled, email classified as clutter will be placed in a folder named Clutter.  Learn more, including how to turn that off, here.
