Driving this car home was likely the scariest thing that I have done in a very long time. The brakes where so soft, that there was times that I didn't know if the car would even stop and the steering was just horrifying.  Most of the time I had to cost to a stop and there must have been 15 degrees of play in the column.  It felt like the car was all over the road, but we had power that 440 was nice. We had to stop several time on the way back because of these problems. The trip was just over 100 miles and it took over 2 hours. That short trip just wiped me out.  I couldn't believe how tired I was afterwards. The worst thing of all is the kid that I bought the car from was so very proud of the car and all the work that he had done.
I never had the heart to tell him that I was going to cut it all up because I was after the sheet steel, mainly the rear quarter panels.
I came to realize after a few years how important this purchase was, it single-handedly saved my station wagon.
