SUMMARY:The Two-Body Problem: Dual Career Couples in Science\, Women o
f Wisconsin Strengthening Astronomy and Physics Colloquium\, Marc Sher
\, Department of Physics\, The College of William and Mary
DESCRIPTION:A decade ago\, Laurie McNeil (now Chair of Physics at UNC)
and I conducted a survey concerning dual career couples in physics. T
he response was overwhelming\, and an extensive report was written (wh
ich has now been downloaded 40\,000 times\, and has had a significant
impact on policy within federal agencies). The survey results will be
discussed in detail\, including the extent of the problem\, a number o
 f &amp\;quot\;horror stories&amp\;quot\;\, and various suggested solut
ions (and\, yes\, some success stories). Recent developments in academ
ia will also be discussed\, as the institutional responses to the &amp
\;quot\;two-body problem&amp\;quot\; have changed substantially in rec
 ent years.&lt\;br&gt\;<br><br>
\n
