SUMMARY:Searching for Pulsars and Radio Transients with the Murchison
Widefield Array\, NPAC (Nuclear/Particle/Astro/Cosmo) Forum\, David Ka
plan\, UW Milwaukee\, Department of Physics
DESCRIPTION:As one of a new generation of widefield\, low-frequency ra
dio
\ntelescopes\, the Murchison Widefield Array has enormous pote
ntial to
\nconduct blind searches for radio transients and probe t
he nearby
\npulsar population. We are working to develop a common
framework
\nwith the Australian Square Kilometer Array Pathfinder
(ASKAP)
\nVariables and Slow Transients (VAST) survey to allow re
al-time
\ntransient detection and characterization. I will discus
s the expected
\ntypes of sources that we hope to discover with th
e full array and
\nreview some of the initial results from our 32-
element testbed.
