SUMMARY:Complex nano-materials by solution chemistry\; from molecules
to applications\, R. G. Herb Condensed Matter Seminar\, Gunnar Westin
 \, Uppsala University\, Sweden
DESCRIPTION:Solution based processes have gained much interest for the
preparation of complex nano-structured materials. Benefits are found
in the often direct and simple processing routes allowing for large sc
ale technological exploitation of the processes without the use of com
plex and size and shape limiting vacuum equipment needed for physical
and chemical vapor deposition. The solution chemical routes span a wid
e range of sub-disciplines that have been rapidly developed during the
recent decade to produce very unique and high quality materials of va
rious shapes and complexities. In this seminar solution based routes t
o complex nano-structured materials in different forms representing di
fferent kinds of complex structuring and areas of uses will be present
ed\, as well as some of their applications in renewable energy\, elect
ronics and\, cutting and mining tools\; •	Solution processing with h
eterometallic alkoxide precursors allowing for very low synthesis temp
eratures\, increased doping levels beyond the thermodynamic limits\, u
ltra thin complex composition coatings etc. •	Extended Er-doping ran
ge in silica wave-guides for Near IR amplifiers by use of single Er-io
n heterometallic alkoxides.•	Electro-ceramic thin and ultra thin fil
ms. •	Films and sponges of nano-structured metals and alloys.•	Met
 al-in-ceramic nano-composite films and foams.
