SUMMARY:Intelligent extraterrestrial life: Does it exist? and\, if so\
, what are the prospects for discovery and communication?\, Chaos & Co
mplex Systems Seminar\, Ed Churchwell\, UW Department of Astronomy
DESCRIPTION:I will explain what I mean by intelligent life\, review th
e high points about what is known about the evolution of "intelligent"
life on Earth and apply some of what are thought to be global princip
les that are likely to govern the origin and evolution of life in the
universe. In particular\, I will spend some time on limitations to our
prospects for discovery and communication. This is a very broad subj
ect\, and I certainly will not have time to cover all the issues assoc
