SUMMARY:The Geometric SMEFT description of curved Higgs Field Space(s)
\, Theory Seminar (High Energy/Cosmology)\, Michael Trott\, Niels Bohr
  Institute
DESCRIPTION:In recent years\, the effective field theory approach to t
 he Standard Model\,
\nthe SMEFT\, has been used to study LHC data with
  ever increasing theoretical precision and
\nsophistication. However\,
the complexity of this theory lead to several barriers to
\nsubstant
ial theoretical progress. In particular\, the explosion in the number
 of parameters in the SMEFT
\nas a function of operator mass dimension\
, and the technical challenge or reformulating
\nSM predictions consis
tently into the SMEFT were very serious problems\, that called into
\
nquestion the possible success and value of the SMEFT physics program
 over the long term.
\nI will discuss how these challenges have been ov
ercome. The key point leading to this advance
\nis the understanding t
hat the projection of curved scalar field spaces generated by the Higg
 s onto
\na naive flat field space understanding implicitly embedded i
nto the usual SMEFT Lagrangian was the root
\ncause of many problems a
nd confusions. Many outstanding issues have been remarkably addressed
 and
\nimmediately overcome by reformulating the SMEFT noting its curv
ed scalar field space - in the Geometric SMEFT.
\nSome examples of th
e benefits of this approach will be presented\, and explained.
\n
\nNo

minar mailing list. To join\, email the organizer.
