SUMMARY:Multiphase Supersonic Outflows in Active Galactic Nuclei\, Ast
ronomy Colloquium\, Daniel Proga\, University of Nevada Las Vegas
DESCRIPTION:Large-scale mass outflows from Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN
 ) naturally connect
\na galaxy to its central black hole and enable a
 n AGN feedback mechanism.
\nHowever\, quantifying the feedback efficie
ncy is challenging because it involves considering
\nmultidimensional
fluid dynamics\, radiative processes\, magnetic processes\, and other
  factors.
\nIn this talk\, I will summarize the main results from our
  ongoing work on developing
\na comprehensive physical model of AGN o
utflows. Observations indicate that these outflows
\nare not smooth\,
including the fastest ones\, like the ultrafast outflows. Therefore\,
  I will focus
\non discussing the physical processes that could creat
e multiphase structures within such outflows.
\nWe will also present s
ynthetic ultraviolet and X-ray absorption spectra\, which probe differ
 ent
\noutflow phases and can be used to test our model against observ
 ations.
