SUMMARY:Investigation of superconducting systems — From microscopics
and numerics to phenomenology\, Preliminary Exam\, Gustav Romare
DESCRIPTION:The theory of superconductivity is magnificently broad and
deep\, and different theoretical tools are needed depending on the na
ture of the problem of interest. In this talk I will introduce two com
monly used approaches and exemplify them through two completed project
 s. The first project uses numerical exact determinant Quantum Monte Ca
rlo methods to investigates the extent of which proximity to Van Hove
Singularities increases the superconducting transition temperature. Th
e second project starts from phenomenological time-dependent Ginzburgâ
€“Landau theory and explores how NV centers can be used as experimenta
l probes of nonlocal superconducting fluctuations\, accessing informat
ion beyond conventional local AC measurements
