SUMMARY:Building (Useful) Trapped-Ion Quantum Technologies\, Wisconsin
Quantum Institute Colloquium\, Sara Mouradian\, University of Washing
 ton
DESCRIPTION:<p>Trapped ions are a leading platform for quantum technol
ogies with long coherence times and high fidelity gates. However\, a u
tility-scale quantum computer will need millions of physical qubits an
d gate times orders of magnitude faster than currently possible. In th
is talk I will lay out the problems hindering large-scale trapped ion
quantum technologies and how we're working to solve them. This include
s better trap design with integrated optics\, gates that work even in
the presence of experimental imperfections\, and active learning for f
 ast\, hands- and model-free gate calibration.</p>
\nThis event starts
at 3:30pm with refreshments\, followed at 3:45pm by a short presentati
on by Mayand Dangi (Choy group)\, titled "ML-assisted high field magne
tometry". The invited presentation starts at 4pm.</p>
