SUMMARY:Multi-messenger Astrophysics: Probing Compact Objects with Cos
mic Particles\, Astronomy Colloquium\, Ke Fang\, UW Astronomy Departme

DESCRIPTION:The study of compact objects such as black holes and neutr
on stars is an important component of modern astrophysics. Recent dete
ctions of astrophysical neutrinos\, gamma-rays\, ultrahigh energy cosm
ic rays\, and gravitational waves open up opportunities to study compa
ct objects with multi-messengers. In this talk\, we first review the l
atest progress in Astroparticle Physics\, including some surprising pu
zzles revealed by new observations. We demonstrate that the key to Mul
ti-messenger Astrophysics is to understand and establish the link betw
een the messengers. We then illustrate how to reach this goal from bot
h theoretical and observational perspectives. From the theoretical sid
e\, we show that high-energy particle propagation in the vicinity of c
ompact objects may play an important role in connecting multi-waveleng
th observation and source physics. From the observational side\, we in
vestigate analysis frameworks aiming to exploit data across multiple w
avelengths and messengers.
