Anomalous Josephson effect in spin-orbit coupled Nanowires
Time: 10:00 am
Place: 5310 Chamberlin
Speaker: Gabriele Campagnano, University of Naples "Federico II"
Abstract: Traditionally the Josephson current flowing between two superconductors coupled by a normal region

(either insulating or conducting) vanishes when the superconducting phase difference between the two sides of the junction is zero. This property can be shown to be related to symmetries of the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations, the simultaneous presence of spin–orbit interaction and magnetic field may break such symmetries.

In this seminar I will discuss the conditions required to have a finite anomalous Josephson current, i.e. a supercurrent flowing when the phase difference is zero. In particular, I will describe how this phenomenon is related to the band structure and to the geometrical realization of the normal region.
