Research Groups in Biophysics

Bergmann Group

Observing chemical reactions and structural changes in natural and artificial systems in real-time. Ultrafast pulses from X-ray lasers and lab sources give high-speed X-ray vision to watch the inner workings of electrons, atoms and molecules.

Gilbert Group

The Gilbert Group is interested in biomineralization — understanding the formation mechanisms, structure, chemistry, and materials properties of natural biominerals. These include coral skeletons, sea urchin spines, mollusk shell nacre, tooth enamel.

The Atom Trainers (Walker Group)

Our research includes Rydberg atom quantum information, biomagnetism, and hyperpolarized noble gases.
