Theory Seminar (High Energy/Cosmology)
Emergent Strings in Type IIB String Theory from type IIb Calabi-Yau compactifications
Time: 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Place: Chamberlin 5280
Speaker: Bjoern Friedrich, U. Heidelberg, ITP
Abstract: The known web of string dualities connects Heterotic and Type IIA string theory via a duality in six or less dimensions. It is known that a fundamental heterotic string emerges from a wrapped NS5 brane. Motivated by mirror symmetry, importantly including the existence of NS5 branes, we argue that there exists an emergent string in type IIB Calabi-Yau compactifications arising by the internal space degenerating into a Tyurin degeneration, a particular realization of a type IIb limit in the complex structure moduli space.
